QAM Quadrature Amplitude Modulation. Method of combining two AM signals into a single channel, thereby doubling the effective bandwidth. QAM is used with pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) in digital systems, especially in wireless applications.
QoS Quality of Service. Transmission rates, error rates and other characteristics can be measured, improved, and, to some extent, guaranteed in advance. Of particular concern for the continuous transmission of high-bandwidth video and multimedia. Transmitting this kind of content dependably is difficult in public networks using ordinary "best effort" protocols. See 802.1P and 802.1Q.
