What is TSO?
TSO stands for "Technical Standard Orders". It is the FAA's method for approving materials, parts, processes, and appliances used on civil aircraft. Icom's IC-A200 and IC-A110 TSO approved radios are considered "appliances".
TSO Approval is an exact, official government process to authenticate that only select materials and construction methods are used to create select versions of the IC-A200 and IC-A110. TSO Approval also includes rigorous environmental and performance testing including compatibility with other avionics equipment and crash survival testing.
Note that not every IC-A200 and IC-A110 is TSO approved, and that no Icom radio produced before 2002 is TSO approved. Also note that any Icom radio produced before 2002 is not upgradeable to a TSO version. Currently, only the IC-A200, version 100, and the IC-A110, version 100, are TSO approved.
